Dr. King once said, “Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" At FCC, we believe there is a loving heart at the center of the Universe, and it wants the best for every human being. Therefore, we are called to nurture the physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well-being of others. Or in the words of Shirly Chisholm, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”
No human is illegal, and no family deserves to be broken by deportation or mass incarceration. We firmly believe that Christ’s call to love our neighbor extends to every individual, regardless of their origin or circumstances. This love includes our immigrant neighbors, as well as those who have been incarcerated - all deserve dignity, compassion, and justice. Our faith compels us to see the divine in all people and to fight against systems that seek to strip them of their humanity.
Therefore, we actively partner with organizations that share our commitment to justice and equality. Working alongside Faith in Texas, Workers Defense Project, and the North Texas Immigration Coalition, we strive to ensure that all people and families have access to their God-given agency and freedom. We are dedicated to breaking down systemic and institutional barriers that limit opportunities and oppress vulnerable communities, recognizing that true freedom is a right granted by God to every human being.
First Community is proud to partner with the STEWPOT. The Stewpot strives to serve our Dallas neighbors by helping them break free from poverty and homelessness. Founded 50 years ago as a mission of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas to feed people on the streets downtown, The Stewpot has grown to provide comprehensive services and a community of support to people who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. Since 1975, The Stewpot has served more than 8 million meals and has provided housing, education, stabilization, and enrichment to Dallas neighbors in need of support.
As a beloved community, we recognize our responsibility to make this vision a reality. If we truly want our neighbors to thrive, we must work together to ensure that every individual has a place where they feel secure and valued. It is through this collective effort that we can build a community rooted in love, justice, and dignity—where everyone has the opportunity to flourish and reach their full potential.
